EV battery production to grow 40x by 2030?

The transition to electric transport is one of the main challenges in the fight against global warming, said Fatih Birol, executive director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), speaking at the Climate Breakthroughs conference.

In May, the IEA published the roadmap — Net Zero by 2050. The document outlines the key steps that humanity must take to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement on climate, namely — carbon neutrality.

The IEA has found that today an electric car spends 70% less energy per kilometre than a car with an internal combustion engine, and with the development of technology, electric transport will become even more efficient. Energy for it will be produced from renewable sources, which will ensure the transition to zero emissions.

Based on IEA stats in order to achieve carbon neutrality by 2030, 60% of all new cars sold must be electric. Now the share of electric vehicles in the global market is 5%.

The production of batteries for electric vehicles (electric vehicles, electric trucks, electric buses, etc.) by 2030, according to the IEA roadmap, will grow by 40 times: from 160 GWh to 6,600 GWh annually.

Clients of the Global Technologies Private Portfolio fund still have access to a small amount of shares in StoreDot, an Israeli company that targets the fast-growing electric car market and develops a unique product for it — batteries that charge in just 5 minutes.

We are a direct investor in the company and are included in the register of its shareholders along with British Petroleum, Daimler AG, Samsung Ventures and Roman Abramovich’s Millhouse LLC.
